Joshua 1:4, From the wilderness and this Lebanon as far as the great river, the river Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites to the Great Sea toward the going down of the sun shall be your territory.

We use many things to set boundaries on our properties—fences, trees, rocks, signs. When it came to set the boundaries for Israel’s Promised Land God promised them, He didn’t use ordinary methods of measuring boundaries. He didn’t use fences, posts, or rocks. Instead, He promised the large extension of their land from river to sea, from the desert to where the sun sets—a limitless stretch. His promise was greater than anything the Israelites could have imagined. Ordinary measurements of boundaries were too insignificant for their enormous inheritance.

God gave the Israelites more than they imagined. This is a continuous pattern of God’s character even for us today. Certainly the Israelites did not deserve this Promised Land, yet God gave it to them anyway. God’s intention was for their land to be limitless. God has given us Jesus Christ—a promise we do not deserve in whom He blesses us with His limitless mercy. Apart from His grace, there are no boundaries to God’s mercy in Christ. No request is too small for God, which He will answer according to His will. No fear is too powerful for God to lead one towards conquering. Through faith in Christ, we receive the enormous inheritance of God’s limitless kingdom.
